Little Luxuries Soapworks

Entrepreneurial spirit is the driving force behind the success of the vendors at the Musquodoboit Harbour Farmers’ Market and someone that truly embodies this trait is Teresa Dunlop, proprietor of Little Luxuries Soapworks. Since 2010, Teresa has been a vital part of the MHFM and during that time has developed her passion and hobby into a thriving business.

A love of quality bath products led Teresa to craft handmade soaps for herself and as gifts for friends and family. Those gift recipients were so impressed that they encouraged Teresa to expand her production, inspiring her to start her own business. The timing could not have been better, as the birth of her third child made the idea of a home based business extremely appealing. Working from home has not always been easy, but the flexibility and work-life balance has certainly made it worthwhile.

That flexibility has been one of the greatest assets for Little Luxuries Soapworks, as Teresa has included vending at farmers’ markets and craft shows, having products carried by retail stores, and doing home parties in her business plan. The parties in particular have become so popular that bookings are sometimes required weeks or months in advance. Another factor that has helped this business is on-going product development as new scents and additions to the product line stimulate interest of loyal patrons and new customers alike. Now these exquisite soaps are joined by luxurious body butters, invigorating scrubs, fizzy bubble salts, and effervescent bath bombs. So, if you are looking for a gift someone special or you need some pampering yourself, check out Teresa’s table at the market, she will have something “just right” for the occasion.

Celebrating a special occasion is certainly on everyone’s mind in October, as we gather together with family and friends to reflect on our blessings at Thanksgiving. Our vendors have healthy, local food for your delicious feast. It is also time to prepare for Halloween and we will keep you posted through Facebook and our newsletter on special events and activities for your family to enjoy.

To learn more about the MHFM, check our website www.mhfarmersmarket.ca to see what’s new. You can also join the conversation on Facebook www.facebook.com/mhfarmersmarket. From both sites you can subscribe to our weekly e-newsletter. If you have a question or are interested in becoming a vendor at our market, please call us at 902-220-9114 or email at info@mhfarmersmarket.ca.
